Research fellow
Dr. Scott A. McCalla serves as Doctoral Professor and Dissertation Chair at the °®¶¹´«Ã½, where he chairs dissertations for both the Doctor of Management (DM) and Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) programs. He is also a Research Fellow in Residence at the University's Center for Organizational Wellness, Engagement, and Belonging (CO-WEB). He was honored as a recipient of the 2025 and 2026 John Sperling Award for distinguished faculty, recognizing his commitment to doctoral education and student success.
His industry experience spans over 25 years in progressive corporate leadership, culminating in C-suite roles as Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Operating Officer. In 2022, he began his transition from corporate leadership to academia, and in 2026, he moved to full-time academic work, dedicating his efforts entirely to doctoral education, research, and mentorship. Throughout his career, he has led initiatives in business development, organizational development, administration, and human resources leadership.
Dr. McCalla earned his doctorate in organizational leadership from the °®¶¹´«Ã½ and his BA and MA in leadership from Bellevue University, completing all three degrees while working full-time. His current research focuses on workplace dynamics and workplace aggression through the theoretical frameworks of Hegemonic Masculinity Theory and Masculinity Contest Culture. He is published in the Journal of Psychological Issues in Organizational Culture and contributed a chapter to the peer-reviewed anthology Bully Beyond the Tower (Hollis, Ed.), along with numerous white papers and academic conference presentations. He also serves as a peer reviewer for the Academy of Management and the Journal of Underrepresented and Minority Progress.
Committed to evidence-based teaching and responsible AI integration in doctoral education, Dr. McCalla holds a certificate in educational philosophy and reflective practice from the University of London and UCL Institute of Education, AI Educator Certifications from Anthropic, and is completing his Higher Education Teaching Certificate from Harvard University.
He is married with three daughters. Outside of work and teaching, he can be found golfing, reading, or painting.
