About Trombley
As the Associate Dean of Psychology and Human Services for the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Dr. Mary Jo Trombley draws on her training as a psychologist and 20 years of experience in higher education to strengthen academic programs, support ongoing faculty development and help prepare students with knowledge and skills relevant to meaningful career development. She values a collaborative environment that fosters teamwork, leadership and shared success, while keeping students at the center of her work and promoting the mission of the University.
Dr. Trombley has been with the University for 20 years, beginning as an associate faculty member in 2005 and becoming a Lead Faculty Area Chair in 2007. Since 2009, she has held multiple leadership roles within the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, starting as Campus College Chair and later transitioning to the Program Chair role. In 2020, she assumed additional responsibilities as Clinical Director and Clinical Supervisor, and in 2024, she advanced to her current position as Associate Dean.
Prior to joining the University, Dr. Trombley spent 15 years working in community mental health. Her experience includes behavioral health services for neurodiverse adults and children, as well as child and family mental health, supporting children, adolescents and families during crisis situations. Throughout this time, her professional focus centered on crisis intervention and suicide prevention.
Dr. Trombley holds a doctoral degree in counseling psychology from Howard University in Washington, D.C. and a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Loyola University (formerly Loyola College) in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Trombley has collaborated with colleagues to review and present on Trauma-Informed Education within the University. Additionally, she co-presented on the MSP-DA program at a national conference on competency-based education in November 2025.
Dr. Trombley has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in psychology and in counseling.
